Bio

Ivan Moudov (Sofia, 1975) is one of the most important artists of the Bulgarian scene. He lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria. He attended the Art Institute, graduating in 2002 from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia with a master’s degree in art and mural painting. In researching him she uses expressive tools such as video, photography, installation and performance.

His work by him investigates with particular attention the power relations and the bonds of force between people and institutions, highlighting the hidden traps behind social conventions and rules. By deconstructing the usual chain reaction of actions and facts, and judging and analyzing them in a playful way, Moudov underlines the ambiguity of reality and the inadequacy of our tools of interpretation. In his work, he questions the field of contemporary art within the power system, as well as socio-political and economic conditions. Furthermore, by subverting existing norms and rules, he aims to reveal the level of their functioning.
