Espai d’art contemporani de Castelló is presenting the group show A Possibility of Escape. Storming the Reality Studio and Retaking the Universe, organized jointly with the MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León.

The exhibition showcases the work of around thirty artists both from Spain and worldwide from MUSAC’s collection, borrowing its reference points from the fundamental principles of the iconic writer, artist and film director William Burroughs with the purpose of making us rethink our current reality, deconstructing and transforming it in the name of a fiction grounded in that other reality of the subconscious that acts as an escape valve in the field of the visual arts. A Possibility of Escape is consciously inscribed in the current moment where distinguishing surrounding reality from fiction is a truly fraught exercise.

The accumulation of economic, political and social problems has brought about a loss of hope and an overexploitation of the real, which overpowers the individual sometimes in the form of frustration or nostalgia and other times in the form of violence and non-acceptance. Yet this period of turmoil, also for the arts, forces us to rethink our strategies on how to keep on moving forward.
