A Finger of Ice (Portrait of the Twilight Artist at El Port de la Selva) (2026) uses cinematic language as a vehicle to synthesize a series of concepts related to the notion of summer vacation from an autobiographical perspective. Through a reflective yet humorously ironic lens, the proposal shifts away from tourist stereotypes and delves into the emotional and experiential journeys of the artist themselves in relation to the environment and landscape of El Port de la Selva, ultimately aiming to construct an analogy between these experiences and their reality in the art world.

The artist, portrayed by the actress Judit Martín, emerges while engaging in some of the typical rituals of summer vacationers and is presented as a marginal note, someone who struggles to fit into the dynamics and sensuality associated with this time of year. Through the repeated mention of their pathologies and phobias, the character initiates a reflection on the continuity of human experiences in the face of changing times.

The film also showcases the enigmatic interaction the artist has with a young antagonist, played by actor Oriol Valls, creating a nostalgic contrast between the past and present reality, while addressing themes of transformation and loss that resonate deeply within the complexity of the human experience.

Carles Congost (Olot, 1970) is a visual artist with a recognized career both in Catalonia and internationally. Over more than two decades, his work has been showcased in prominent museums, art centers, and festivals, notable for his ability to develop new languages in the audiovisual field.

His work is characterized by the combination of diverse disciplines and imaginaries: video, photography, drawing, and installation intermingle with references to music, fashion, advertising, and music videos. With these resources, Congost constructs hybrid narratives that reflect, with irony and sensitivity, on the construction of identity, social stereotypes, and collective imaginaries.

The film  A Finger of Ice (Portrait of the Twilight Artist at Port de la Selva) is an initiative by ARBAR, Centre d’Art i Cultura, co-produced with Bòlit, Centre d’Art Contemporani de Girona. On one hand, the ARBAR Centre for Art and Culture promotes the production of cultural projects located in the region, specifically in the Vall de Santa Creu and Port de la Selva; on the other hand, Bòlit fosters the creation of new artistic productions in collaboration with institutions and independent spaces in the Girona region.

ARBAR Centre d’Art i Cultura is a production center located in the Vall de Santa Creu, Port de la Selva, with a central focus on performative processes. ARBAR offers a unique perspective characterized by the dialogue between contemporary creation and the reinterpretation of the territory. Its model combines productive, performative, and cinematic dimensions in relation to the region. In this way, it articulates a singular ecosystem where context becomes a matrix for creation, experimentation, and cultural exchange. This orientation not only places it within the network of independent spaces in the country but also distinguishes it by fostering an organic relationship between artistic practice, territory, and community.

El Bòlit, Centre d’Art Contemporani de Girona, is a public institution dedicated to the promotion, production, and dissemination of contemporary art. Founded in 2008, it operates as a support platform for creation by providing research spaces, residencies, public programs, and mediation actions. Its activities focus on supporting artists and developing projects that connect contemporary practices with current social, cultural, and territorial contexts.
