The Artericambi gallery in Verona inaugurates, on February 28th, the Federico Maddalozzo exhibition, curated by Gigiotto Del Vecchio. An intervention that consists of two large installations and two wall works, in which the attention of the gaze, the subtraction of the central element, the showing of the “container” that surrounds the action, characterizes his second solo show in the Veronese gallery. The first dates back to 2006. Maybe # 05 was the main installation, a Pantone bundle cut in half and taken to the third dimension in an attempt to definitively destroy all its possible cataloging intent. An operation that concludes and cancels the will, the possibility of archiving and serial conservation and opens up to further design purposes up to what will be today: dynamics such as the subtraction of sight, the work as an envelope and impediment for the gaze. , state of necessity, opportunity (due to the error) of a possible poetic development.

The error represents a moment of great possibility of relaunching, and reflection on what has been done and on what still can and must be done, on further possibilities and on the possibilities of modifying a completed gesture. The artist recovers real elements – the defect in the layout of a book, the wooden structures that delimit a small road maintenance site, the scaffolding that supports a large advertising panel – and distorts them through displacement and decontextualization, proposing them in the exhibition space removed from all their functional possibilities, giving it a purely aesthetic and sculptural added value. Federico Maddalozzo does not implement a semantic shift in the pop direction, in which the object returns, through the artist’s gesture, to still be an object, instead it moves in the opposite direction, towards the total cancellation of its functionality, of every possible one. opportunity, thus letting the structures live and resist only in their being element, color, shape, rarefied vision.
