For the inauguration, in the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista, screening of the video by João Onofre, Casting, 2000 Casa Masaccio Center for Contemporary Art promotes the 6th edition of the review The immobile event, curated by Cristiana Collu, Saretto Cincinelli and Alessandro Sarri, who this year is entitled Apparitions. The Apparizioni exhibition concludes the review, which began with the partnership of the Man museum in Nuoro in 2007, and aims to investigate, through the video works of João Onofre (P), Robbert Weide (NL), Sean Rogg (UK), Helen Dowling (UK), Marrit Snel (NL), Hans Schabus (A), Ruben Bellinkx (B), Kathrin Connan (D), Sophie Krayer (CH), the constitutively paradoxical and undecidable configuration of appearance. Today’s event follows the two days of study held last May in Florence at Ex 3 Center for Contemporary Art – with speeches by Rocco Ronchi, Riccardo Panattoni, Elio Grazioli and the presentation of the video work Echo by Hans Schabus – and at San Giovanni Valdarno – with speeches by Paolo Bertetto, Marco Senaldi and the video work Untitled, Vulture in the studio by Joao Onofre and at the same time, at Casa Masaccio, the exhibition En plein air by Paolo Meoni-. What appears through the apparition? The pure and transitive act that is welded to everything that the apparition does or maybe something that disappears through what it is responsible for making appear intransitively? In the spirit of the review The immobile event which, since the first edition, investigates the incoative dimension of the event, proposing to analyze what permanent and fixed resists and insists in every moving image, the works on display, for the most part partly unedited in Italy, they measure themselves against the theme of the Apparition not in a frontal and direct way but through an oblique gaze that in the place of confrontation seems to dissolve, to withdraw into what appears most irreducible of itself. Can the apparition appear to hide or conceal something? Or it happens that the apparition stops, freezes without becoming anything other than its own irreducible impossibility not to appear in itself, digging more and more the distance that separated it, separates it and will separate it from the image of every possible postponement? A double bond, a double injunction, a double interdiction therefore; now what appears seems to appear despite and through itself, in that irreproducible delay that never ceases to seal itself in the unprecedented flagrance of an anticipation that has always already been reproduced, for the first time.

The exhibition is carried out as part of the regional initiative Toscanaincontemporanea 2011.
