On Saturday 15 October at 6.00 pm the Arte Ricambi gallery in Verona inaugurates the new exhibition season with Natacha Anderes first Italian solo show entitled Quasi.

In this exhibition, the Swiss artist presents a dozen medium and large-sized paintings – made with the remodeling plastine technique – on the theme of the metropolitan landscape subject to large urban intervention works that radically modify the nature of the place. The cities portrayed in her works are Berlin, Naples, Genoa, Verona. Under the title Paysage en mutation (landscape in mutation), a few years ago Natacha Anderes embarked on a research on the transformation of urban suburbs, paying particular attention to terrains vagues – abandoned peripheral areas that later became areas of major architectural and urban interventions.

The artist portrays the phase of mutation of the places occupied by the work sites: sets of excavations, scaffolding, cranes, they are no longer terrain vague – no man’s land – but they are not yet places with a precise identity. Rather, they present themselves as laboratories of contemporaneity, where man implements his design on reality. To accentuate the process of mutation to which the landscape is subjected, Natacha Anderes implements a conceptual shift on the work itself. Her paintings represent not only the image of reality but also the very condition of impermanence and mutability of reality.

By portraying the image with reshaped colored plastine and spread out in layers and overlaps, just as if it were pictorial matter – the artist is able to change the face of the landscape in order to reflect the mutation process. An original technique that allows her not only to modify the image of the place, but to establish a formal contract with the collector of the work, through which she undertakes to change the landscape of the painting at the end of the work.
