Artericambi present “Eyes Closed” by Agnese Galiotto, painter and film-maker. Starting from the 20th of March, Agnese will fresco the walls of the gallery with the dreamlike landscapes of Lessinia.

Exploring these places, the artist finds relics of the past preserved in the rock. Prehistoric fish fossils, from when everything was submerged under water. The madonnas painted by a local painter, in inaccessible points, difficult to reach, as if he wanted to allow only the forest to be able to look at them. His figures always had their eyes closed, they seemed to be sleeping, they never looked back who was watching them.

Fresco painting transforms plants and birds into stone, expressing the desire to give them a longer life. At the end of the exhibition, only some pieces of the fresco will be saved for conservation, while the rest will be destroyed.

Eyes closed will be inaugurated on 13 May 2023 at 4.00 pm and will end on 03 August 2023, where Adele Trazzi, professor of restoration at the Accademia di Brera and Verona, will lead the work of detaching the fresco from the walls of the gallery.

Agnese Galiotto (Chiampo, 1996) is a painter and a filmmaker.  She graduated from the Städelschule in Frankfurt and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.

Her practice combines the ancient fresco technique and cinema: both media are tools for her to elaborate narratives and develop immersive installations, while her research revolves around the relationship between human identity and the natural world.

Since 2020 she has participated in the residency program Dolomiti Contemporanee (IT) and has recently participated in the Jeju Biennal in South Korea following the artistic residency in Gapado AiR.

Her work has been exhibited at Frankfurter Kunstverein (DE), Kunsthal Gent (BE), BFI SouthBank (UK), Palmengarten Frankfurt (DE). She has presented the videos in several European film festivals and her frescoes are exhibited in public collections, abandoned buildings and private homes.
