AGNESE GALIOTTO

Scheletro (Skeleton)

October 11 - October 30, 2025

PRESS RELEASE

Text by BEATRICE BENEDETTI

On the occasion of ArtVerona, starting Saturday, October 11 (from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) and until October 30, 2025, the work Scheletro by Agnese Galiotto will be installed in the Sala Morone of the Church of S. Bernardino (Stradone Antonio Provolo 28, Verona).

Several forces are reactivated by this project, curated by the Artericambi Gallery of Verona, which reconnects the masterful decoration of the Renaissance hall with the research of the Venetian artist. There are, first of all, technical affinities: attributed to Domenico Morone, his son Francesco, and their large workshop, the hall was entirely frescoed between 1494 and 1503—a technique that Agnese Galiotto (Chiampo, 1996) employed centuries later.

The Scheletro installation is indeed composed of full-scale preparatory cartoons that the Vicenza-based artist referenced for her frescoes on the walls of exhibition spaces or abandoned houses, as in the work Green Cave, created in 2022 on Gapado Island in South Korea.

From a thematic perspective, along the long sides of the Sala Morone—used as a library of the convent of the Friars Minor by commission of Lionello di Donato Sagramoso—a series of Franciscan doctors and cardinals unfolds, culminating in the central scene of the Madonna in glory among angels and Saints Francis and Clare. The author of the Canticle of the Creatures himself represents another point of connection between the Veronese Renaissance painter and Galiotto, whose research focuses on a deep understanding and consequent harmonious relationship between humans and other living species, both animal and plant.

The temporary installation will be on view from October 13 to October 30, 2025, by appointment, and is accompanied by a critical text by the art historian and curator Beatrice Benedetti.

BIOGRAPHY

Agnese Galiotto (Chiampo, 1996) is a painter and filmmaker. She graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts (IT) and the Städelschule in Frankfurt (DE).

Her practice combines the ancient technique of fresco with the language of cinema. Both mediums serve as tools to develop narratives and create immersive installations. Her research explores human relationships with those closest to her—family, friends, animals—in relation to the passage of time.

Her works have been exhibited at GAMeC, Galleria di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, at the Kumho Museum of Arts in Seoul, the Jeju Biennial, the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Kunsthal Gent, the Palmengarten in Frankfurt, and BFI Southbank in London. She took part in the Dolomiti Contemporanee residency (IT) in 2021 and the Gapado AiR program (KR) in 2022.

Agnese Galiotto was recently selected among the winners of the WONDERFUL! Art Research Program – Maria Manetti and Jan Shrem Foundation residency at the Museo del Novecento in Florence.
